United We Stood ... Remembering 9-11

As I sit here in disbelief that we are approaching the ten year anniversary of 9-11, I can still remember where I was at like it was yesterday. Driving in my car, on my way to work, I am listening to the radio while the DJ announces the tragedy that has just taken place at the World Trade Center. By the time I walk into my office, my co-workers have the tv on and I am just in time to see the 'fall' of the first tower. A few minutes later, the next.
To this day, the only thing that keeps my blood from boiling at such a senseless act of terrorism is remembering the way this country came together in a time of crisis. Americans stood united and put on a brave face. We helped our fallen citizens' families and we gained a new respect for the firefighters, who arrived first on the scene. Amidst the chaos, our brave military men and women stood to protect us. But it was the citizens of this country that came together.
This is what I choose to remember of that day ... United We Stood.
(Thank you to our men and women still fighting for this country)

We have forgotten the significance of that tragic day and it has been reduced to postcards and ribbons. Being an active duty soldier, I've left the comfort and security of my homeland to defend it. It’s saddens me to see so much hatred taking place within our own shores. We should all think back to that awakening moment and put our petty differences aside so we “CHANGE" American society for the better.
